Let me share with you something you may not have known till today. Do you know what the colour of Happiness is? Yes, that colour of Happiness has a name. It’s called VIBGYOR.

Don’t tell me, you’ve never heard this name. I know you have heard it, because I know that 90% of you, who are reading this blogpost have attended school.

The best thing about this name is that it is an acronym for a combination of colours. Violet-Indigo-Blue-Green-Yellow-Orange-Red. Seven distinct colours that merge together as VIBGYOR and earn the privilege of becoming one name, one colour, for that which is sought after by all – Happiness.

If you know yourself well enough, then you know that you experience each day with a certain attitude or mood. That mood doesn’t change much during the whole 16 hours that you are awake. The mood could be Indifferent, Excited, Angry, Sad, Positive or Negative.

In fact, you walk about daily, either alone or among people, with a certain aura around you. Here, I request you to never buy into this fiction written by any writer or reporter who states about some particular person (usually some major celebrity or influential person) that, “he has an aura around him”. Each of us, from the marginal to the mighty, has an aura.

An aura is a spectrum of colours emanated by our body, which is invisible to the naked eye. However, there is a special type of photography, called Kirlian photography that can capture an aura in a photograph. The colour of an aura reflects the mood/state of the being in the body. If you are Indifferent, Excited, Angry, Sad, Positive or Negative, then the colour of your aura reflects your inner self.

You might be in any mood, I may only sense it, never see its colour. This is perhaps why, over a period of time, the human living in a cave began to seek more than food, in his stone-age existence. As his mind developed over centuries of living, he sought to seek and express his happiness too. He didn’t know what happiness was, but that he felt happy. It was here, that colours began to take an important role in his life.

Not just black and white, but that stone-age human who is now the modern-age man, wants to be surrounded by all shades and tones of possible colours, when he is happy. He wants to show his true colours. Because, when he is happy, only a multitude of colours can give expression to the multitude of joyous feelings that demand external expression.

You do know that all human festivals are colourful. Where there is joy, there is colour. Where there is Happiness, there is VIBGYOR.

And, one such grand festival of colours that is celebrated around the world is Holi. This is a festival, where we show our true colours. We literally smear and pour our joy in the form of colours on each other, thereby symbolically adding colour to each other’s life.

Here’s wishing all of you a very Happy Holi!

Parting Question: Would you be willing to let go and show your true colours when the occasion demands it?
