Quietest place you know

Have you ever been to a really quiet place? So quiet that you could not hear a sound?

I doubt if many of you have experienced such quiet. Yes, there is the time at night when there is relative quiet. But then you might agree, there would still be some occasional sound from inside or outside the house that does break that quiet.

I invite you to actively seek the quietest place and time you know. Once you do find such a place, your next step should be to savour it. Why? Because this is the place where, if you make an effort, you will get to know new things about yourself.

We are surrounded by so much sound. Day in and day out, our ears are bombarded with all kinds of noise. Many of you try to block all such irritating sounds by use of earphone that plays a more agreeable mix of sounds called ‘songs’. In other words, you latch on to a different sound to counter the sound that you don’t like.

At some point in life, or whenever you get a chance, do try to experience pure silence. It is only in pure silence that you will get to hear something you rarely hear — the beating of your heart.

A few years back, I got such a chance. I was invited by All India Radio (AIR) to voice a character in a drama. I entered the recording studio and as soon as the door closed, I experienced complete silence. I stood there without moving. A minute later, I became aware of some sound that kept coming to my ears. Soon enough, I began to realize that this sound was the quiet beating of my heart. I had never really got a chance to hear it earlier. But that afternoon, standing in the studio, I heard this valuable sound that plays such an important role in keeping me physically here on this planet.

There comes a point in silence where you cannot just remain a passive observer of your thoughts.

If anyone of you has been in a recording studio, you would know the quality of silence that is available there. In such silence, you become acutely aware of who you are. The thoughts that trouble you, disappoint you, make you happy, make you laugh or give you wings to fly— they become more powerful in such silence. There comes a point in this silence where you cannot just remain a passive observer of such thoughts. The body begins to react with the heart rate going up or down, resulting in anger or sadness and tears follow. At this point, you come to know more about what drives you down or lifts you up. Such is the power of such silence.

This is the reason why such powerful silence is not prescribed for a long time. Short bursts of such silence at regular intervals help a person become self aware. But longer duration of such silence becomes something dreadful. This is why ‘solitary confinement’ continues to be the harshest form of non-violent punishment that has been used for centuries to break down difficult mindsets.

But, it does not take away from the fact that if you step into the quietest place you know, you will get to know deeper layers of your unique personality.

FACEBOOK SEEMS LIKE A GHOST TOWN TO ME 👻 . I know this is a bit extreme. But this is just how I feel when I post anything on my business Facebook page now. 😾 . I have only 81 Likes on my page, but had there been even 8100 likes there, I would still feel the same way. 💀 . Why? I have my reasons. 🐇 . ↔️ NO ENGAGEMENT 🐦 . As everyone knows there is close to nil organic engagement on business Facebook page now. You post on your biz FB and the organic reach is close to 1-2%. Ridiculous and laughable. 😰 . You may have a page with 50,000 Likes, but average number of Likes for each of your post would be around 200-300. And you can forget about any Shares. That’s what the situation is. 📲 . ↔️ PAY TO PLAY 🐦 . As you know, you need to buy Facebook ads to get any Likes or engagement now. When you buy their ad and run it, you will get so many Likes that you will smile and smile. 😄 . You can either Boost your Post or Boost your FB page. They will get a boost alright. But what happens once the ad runs out. Nothing. So, it is pay-to-play on Facebook. Nothing more. 🚷 . ↔️ FORGOTTEN LIKES 🐦 . What do you do once you get so many Likes from your Boost Post and Boost Page campaigns? I mean, how do you handle the Likers? 🚥 . If you are not serious about those Likes you got and you are just happy with the number of Likes, then obviously your Facebook campaign had nothing to do with digital marketing. 🚧 . Value what you get when you pay to use Facebook platform to get leads that convert for your business. 🛩️ . Marketers say Facebook is a a good lead generation platform. You must have come across these statements often on social media and even TV news. You must have thought: Can I also create a viral post/video/photo? 🤔 . You might have read a few blog posts and articles talking about viral content with click-bait headlines like -- “Here's the secret.../ “This is the secret sauce.../ “Now you too can create...viral content.” 🕺 . When you read that post you knew that the writer too had no idea how to create viral content. You must have mentally slapped that writer for wasting your time. 😠 . VIRAL FACT ✔️ . Thing is, even the smartest digital marketer alive today cannot claim that they can create an organic (not paid) post, photo or video that can go viral at will on social media. ♉️ . Clients and businesses of course do request their digital marketing agency to create viral content. But any self-respecting agency quickly puts down any such silly demand of their client and ignores it. 🚮 . MY VIRAL FACEBOOK POST ✔️ . Luckily, three years back, I created and published one viral Facebook post in August 2015. It just happened on its own. ✴️ . Iranian film director Majid Majidi had released his film 'Muhammad - The Messenger of God’ in Iran on August 26, 2015. I saw the news on a website on Aug 27 morning. I thought this would be an interesting post. 🎬 . I collected 6-7 film pics together in one post, wrote a few lines about the film and added a link to film trailer. My FB post was ready the same morning. I published it on my business FB page and then shared it on my personal FB profile page. 🖱️ . I was shaking my head when I saw the number of shares it had received by that evening. In one week that FB organic post received 700+ shares and a Post Reach of 60,000+. 😱 .
