Mixing a brew of freelancing and writing in the pan of social media
Let me welcome you into the world of podcasts.
It is quite an interesting world where you get to hear voices talking about so many different topics. I hope you have heard of podcasts?
You haven’t? Oh…. 😦
Allow me to give you some explanation. Baba G (Google Baba for newbies) defines a Podcast as: a digital audio file made available on the Internet for downloading to a computer or portable media player, typically available as a series, new installments of which can be received by subscribers automatically.
Hope you understand it now. A podcast is just like your radio FM channel. In a radio FM channel that belongs to some business group, you tune in and get to listen to three things basically:
1. The Radio Jockey’s (RJ) voice
2. The songs that the RJ plays
3. The ads that come between songs
A podcast on the other hand is mostly a private affair. A podcast is run by motivated individuals/groups who talk about different aspects of some topic regularly. It could be of 10 mins duration or 30 mins or 1 hr, or anything in between this limit.
I have been listening to podcasts regularly for about a year now. I am mostly interested in podcasts in the Business category, more specifically in the sub-topic of ‘Online Business’.
But there are podcasts available in so many different categories like Arts, Business, Comedy, Education, Games & Hobbies, Government & Organisations, Health, Kids & Family, Music, News & Politics, Religion & Spirituality, Science & Medicine, Society & Culture, Sports & Recreation, Technology, TV & Film.
What do you have to do if you want to listen to a podcast? Well, you just have to choose a top podcaster in your desired category and go to his/her website and start playing the podcast from the list he/she would have there on the topic that interests you. If you don’t like it, then go to the next best podcaster in the category, till you find your favourite one.
You can even download the podcast and listen to it when you have time or when you are driving a car.
Personally, I am not into radio FM channels. I feel the RJs talk a lot and there are so many ads that come between songs I might want to hear. So I rarely listen to radio FM. Instead what I do is I download my favourite podcast topics on my computer and transfer it to a pen drive which I then play on the car audio system, when I feel like it.
Since I am mostly interested in the field of online business and personal development, I follow and listen to two podcasters quite regularly. Both of them talk about their experience in the field and also interview top experts to get their insight.
PAT FLYNN: He runs the http://www.smartpassiveincome.com blog and podcast at http://www.smartpassiveincome.com/podcasts/ You can check out the topics he covers, if online business and passive income is something you are interested in.
JOHN LEE DUMAS: He runs his daily podcast at http://www.eofire.com/podcast/ You can read the topics that he covers daily.
I have developed a habit of listening to podcasts first thing in the morning and making notes in my book, whenever I listen to anything interesting or important.
For me, this is a good way to start the day, feeling motivated, determined and optimistic. I don’t read newspapers much, just scan it. There’s too much negativity in the daily headlines and news reports which makes it difficult for the mind to remain mentally calm and positive.
So, welcome again to the world of podcasts. 🙂
