Getting in front of finances

How important do you think it is to know how much you are earning and how much do you have in savings?

If I know you right, you will say, “Very important”. This is how it should be. Every person who earns anything needs to know how much he earns and how much he saves.

But then there are people like me too in this world, who are not so driven by these important questions. Mind you, both questions are important:

–> 1. How much do I earn every financial year?

–> 2. How much do I save every financial year?

There is an even more important question, that surpasses both the above questions and that is:

–> 3. How much do I give away every financial year (either in charity or donation) ?

For now, this third question is not what we are discussing here. This question will be discussed later in some other post.

Why did I think about talking about earning and income and finances today?

Well, it so happened that I had been wondering for the past few days about my financial situation and where exactly do I stand? Till yesterday, it was all vague, not very clear. But today, I sat down with determination and decided to sort things out. The time had come.

So, I started calculating and checking my bank statements to find out what was my income in the last financial year of 2015-16. I also wanted to know how much I had managed to save the last financial. I am happy to say that it was worth the effort I put in.

I feel I am on a more confident ground now. I have all the numbers saved in a spreadsheet in my Google Drive. I have made a spreadsheet/Excelsheet of the next financial also from April 2016-March 2017.

There is this saying: What gets measured, gets treasured. In other words, when you start getting in front of your finances, not only do you win at taxes, but you also get clarity about where you are headed.

Once you know where you stand, then you can take steps to go higher and reach a new peak on which to stand. 🙂

  1. Honestly after reading this post i realized i have never calculated my income earned financially or saved..Yes the 3rd question made me to ponder much did i give in charity.I did feel satisfied by reminiscing the fact that i helped two people:a father who had to marry of his daughter & a brother who had to marry off his sister:by donating as much my pocket & situation would allow.Yes,the satisfaction which i derived after this act of benovelence,is unexpressable..😊☺
